"Douchekazoo" has now been added to my list of favorite words.

And yep, I totally agree. When I'm free-flow writing, I can quite quickly get the general meat of the article in there. But then come the edits - which probably takes longer than the actual writing 😅

Now I'm writing my book, it's about a million times slower because I am doing a ton of research on top. But well, carrying on!

The edits can absolutely take as long or longer than the writing sometimes!

Ooh la la, a book. That's amazing Maggie.

Right? And for some reason I always forget too. Like ahhh I'm done, excellent, I can send it out soon! *3 hours later* Crap, I won't make it today 😅

Thank you! I hope it will be 🙏

Yep, a life guide ❤️

Nice, I could use one of those!

Like your zombie writing. Raising the ideas from the grave which is better than reading tombstones.

haha, 'raising the ideas from the grave' is such great phrasing.

Nice insight into that noggin of yours. Your writing process is a bit like mine, my original draft looks nothing like my final draft. I really liked this. And by the way stop copying me and stuff, weirdo. We are so much alike, only you're braver. :)

haha we really are two weird peas in a quirky pod. It's wild how much a piece can change over time.

Not sure how I'm braver though.

Elle Becker's avatar

It's your pieces. You write about stuff I could never have the guts to, and you pull it off. Someday I'll be able to do that.

Robin Wilding's avatar

Pfft, not at all. You write about your illness and life. You posted that super puffy pic of yourself, I only post good ones 😆

True. OK we're both brave! Speaking your truth and writing well at the same time isn't always easy to do. :)

Loved this! I have stuff that sits in draft for days or months or even years, and other stuff that I just crank out and hit publish. These days, I'm like a dog digging in the garden. The spray of dirt is my writing. I'm just going to get it on everybody.

Samesies! Sometimes it pours out quickly, sometimes it takes months.

And you can get good (and bad) results using either process!

"I just make this job look easy.”

Love this article… so much writing NEVER sees the light of day. That is just the first page.

I draft, I rewrite, I abondon, I revisit, I redo, I finish one of ten and start another batch till the next peice final resonates and fires me up.

Those ones I polish and tweak to they are EXACTLY how I wish and I hit SEND!

There is nothing a fucking self help writing book will teach you… just do it! And reiterate over and over FOREVER because that’s what you do!

If not are you really a writer?
